Join us for the 6th annual UTM Sustainability Week! Sustainability Week will be held this year from Monday March 17th to Friday March 21st, 2025, in partnership with UTMSU, the UTM Sustainability Office, and the MScSM Student Executive Council (MSEC).  

 

Monday, March 17th 

UTM Sustainability Office Information Session:

Time: 10:00am-11:30am

Join the Sustainability Office for a dynamic and engaging session where you'll uncover the impactful initiatives shaping our campus's sustainable future. Get the inside scoop on what we do, demystify common sustainability practices, and witness firsthand how we're making a difference.
But that's not all—let's celebrate the remarkable achievements of UTM's Sustainable Action Award winners! These individuals and teams have gone above and beyond, making tangible contributions to sustainability at the University of Toronto.

Mindful Monday's: Fashion with a Purpose

Time: 11:30am-1:00pm

Location: Wellness Den (DV 2207)

Join us for a hands-on, sustainability focused workshop where students will explore the art of hand-sewing using fabric. This beginner-friendly session will focus on learning basic stitches, equipping participants with the foundational skills needed to repair, repurpose, and upcycle their own clothing. No prior sewing experience is required, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!

The session will feature a 30-minute panel discussion, followed by a 15-minute audience Q&A, and will conclude with an open networking session where attendees can connect with panelists and like-minded individuals. MScSM Presents: Sustainable Buildings Canada Guest Lecture

Time: 1:00-3:00pm

Brynn Nheiley is the Executive Director of Sustainable Buildings Canada, known for her strategic leadership in building sustainable, socially responsible communities. Previously, she served as the Executive Director of Community Planning, Regulation & Mobility for the City of Burlington, driving policies for urban development and mobility solutions. Her career in both public and private sectors spans urban and rural planning, climate change mitigation, and sustainability. Brynn holds a Bachelor’s in Architectural Science from Toronto Metropolitan University and a Master’s in Planning from Dalhousie University. Her background in architecture and urban planning informs her holistic approach to the built environment, fostering projects that benefit both human health and natural systems. At SBC, Brynn is dedicated to advancing collaboration and real-world solutions in sustainable development, inspiring a community of leaders and learners in the field.

You can expect to see some local & national brands showcasing their products, telling their stories, and celebrating all the good that comes with Fair Trade and sustainable practices!

Bring your wallets & appetites - this year we're going to have a wide variety of products at the market, from food & flowers to jewelry, soaps, candles, cookbooks, bedsheets, socks, hair accessories, bath towels, clothing & more - we'll have plenty of Fair Trade items available to see, touch, try, taste, and buy, as well as people ready and willing to share their cool brands and unique stories around how they're working to change the world.

Campus Sustainability Tours

Location: Meet at link to NSB from Davis

The Sustainability Office invites students, staff, and faculty to join us on a 1-hour walking tour of our newest building, the New Science Building (NSB).

NSB is another step forward in the University of Toronto's ambitious long-term commitment to reduce its overall carbon footprint and achieve a climate-positive campus.  Despite the high energy demands of a laboratory-intense building, the new science building has an extremely low carbon footprint.  This has been achieved through a number of best-in-class sustainable energy systems in the new facility.

Join us for a hands-on workshop in Sustainable Fashion with Clotho, where we’ll delve into the art of slow fashion and uncover why every garment’s story truly matters. Explore tangible ways to reduce waste, insist on ethical production, and breathe new life into old pieces. Also, get a chance to design a custom hand-block-printed tote to take home. Because we believe mindful consumption can spark real change within fashion, and we’d love for you to be a part of it.

With the theme "Solutions in Sustainability," the fair will showcase how individuals and organizations are addressing environmental and social challenges, stimulating learning and collaboration across the campus community.

UofT Mapping and UTMSU Sustainability Scavenger Hunt 

Time: 2:00-4:00pm 

Location: Student Centre Presentation Room

The UofT Mapping Club is teaming up with UTMSU Sustainability for an exciting event to create a sustainability map of our campus highlighting key sustainability points such as bike racks, EV charging stations, and battery recycling locations. This is a great way to contribute to campus sustainability, learn about mapping, and have fun with fellow students!
