Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) in Psychology, Minor in English • Toronto Metropolitan University

Bio

Samira graduated with distinction from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University) in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and minor in English. She is most interested in the fields of clinical psychology and social psychology, having elected to participate in an Advanced Seminar in Clinical Psychology as well as volunteer as a Research Assistant with the Social Perceptions and Intergroup Relations (SPIRAL) Lab. Broadly, she is interested in environmental education and communication, sustainability solutions/transitions, as well as policy development and engagement.

Her journey into sustainability began with an interest in health and wellbeing, which led to her volunteering and working across various departments at North York General Hospital, including the Vaccination Clinic, Occupational Health and Safety, Medical Imaging, Nursing Resource Team, and Screening Operations (in which she later assumed a Coordinating role). Currently, Samira works at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as a member of the Central Scheduling Office responsible for the Acute Care, Veterans Centre, and Critical Care nursing teams. At Sunnybrook, Samira was selected as a member of the President’s Environmental Task Force established to guide and focus the hospital’s stewardship initiatives, serving in the Research, Education, and Culture working group. An avid volunteer, Samira also joined Project Neutral as a Team Lead for two cohorts of their award-winning climate education course, Talk Climate to Me, before becoming the first volunteer Course Facillitator in Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. During this time, she collaborated with the Project Neutral team to adapt course materials, which led to a new emphasis on climate awareness in immigrant communities and stronger connections to healthcare implications in Canada. This interest in environmental communications is further implicated in volunteer work with The Starfish Canada, in which she has published articles examining the relationship between Formula 1 and the global climate crisis as well as sustainability in the live entertainment industry (with a special focus on ethical merchandise production). She has also co-developed The Right Formula, a digital scientific communications initiative exploring the intersections of sustainability, global policy, and motorsport with an emphasis on graphic design and creative storytelling. As well, as a member of the Major Group for Children and Youth since 2023, Samira also served as a Speaker/Panelist at the 2023 United Nations ECOSOC Youth Forum, where she delivered an intervention during the North America, Europe, and Other States session on creating economic opportunities for youth post-COVID19.

Outside of her professional and academic life, Samira loves to read, write, and is a massive music fan, interested in a wide variety of genres including indie folk, alternative, metalcore, and pop. On most weekends, you can probably find her watching Formula 1 with friends.
