Bio
Ira’s interest in sustainability was sparked in her youth. Growing up in Singapore, her school and home integrated a deep appreciation for the concept of careful consumption, from food to clothing to plastic bags. In high school, she researched the economic impact of a local supermarket chain’s disincentivisation of plastic bag usage. She was also fascinated by the concepts of storage and disposal of chemical waste, which led her to study Chemistry at University College London.
Through her degree, she was able to conduct further research into her interests such as measuring the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in and around primary schools in London, as well as a literature review on the composition of inorganic compounds present in emissions released by slash-and-burn agriculture in Southeast Asia.
Ira has been working in the field of Change Management with KPMG Singapore since she graduated in 2021. Beyond environmental sustainability, she is actively involved with the rare disease community, both in Singapore and internationally. She is an executive committee member of DEBRA Singapore and serves as the Vice President of the DEBRA International Youth Council. She supports the community that suffers from a rare genetic blistering disease Epidermolysis Bullosa (of which Ira is also a patient) through patient engagement, advocacy, and fundraising, among other efforts.
In her personal life, Ira is an avid reader, with a particular love for thriller, mystery, and sci-fi novels. She also loves a good ice hockey game, embroiders in her free time, and believes a hot cup of chai can solve any problem.
