Bio
Jiawei is an exchange student from the University of Geneva where she is currently studying MSc in Innovation, Human Development and Sustainability with a specialization in sustainable consumption, production, and organization. Prior to this program, she obtained an MPhil in Education (Globalization and International Development) at the University of Cambridge in 2019 and then worked for nearly two years in the education industry in China. She got her bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2018 and was honoured as ‘Shanghai Outstanding Graduate’.
Jiawei is passionate about working toward achieving sustainability and the SDGs. She used to focus on education equity and education for sustainable development but has now extended her interest to many of the other dimensions. In Geneva, she did a traineeship with UNITAR Headquarters, working on the 2022 edition of the Geneva Trialogue to promote cross-sectoral partnerships for innovative solutions toward sustainable development. Besides, she exposed herself to the environmental areas by working at 2050Today, a climate change initiative aiming at decarbonizing the international Geneva under the cooperation with the municipal and cantonal authorities. She coordinated with the member institutions including UN permanent missions, international organizations, and universities to collect their annual carbon footprint data across energy, waste, mobility, and food and supported them along the process.
Jiawei enjoyed being a little wanderer – she volunteered in Borobudur, Indonesia, performed dramas in Edinburgh, Cambridge, and Shanghai, and participated in a student summit in Puebla, Mexico. She loves travelling, painting, performing arts, and photography.
