Bio
Andrea graduated with honors from the University of Toronto with a degree in Health Studies, and a double minor in Latin American History and Sociology. She found the intersection between health and the environment extremely interesting and frightening. In her final year of undergraduate studies, she took a course called Climate Change and Migration. During this time, she realized her passion for the sustainability space and her desire to support the planet and all living things. Andrea began volunteering with a professor at the University of Toronto, researching the intersection between climate change, migration, and health. Along with the professor’s team, she helped create a database of all journals published on that topic. She worked there for nearly a year, immersing herself in research papers and the latest studies. While she enjoyed this academic environment, she felt a calling to take a more active role within her community.
This led her to her second job at the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), a start-up incubator that supports ventures with revolutionary technology aimed at bettering human prosperity. Andrea was part of the Advanced Materials stream, where 90% of the ventures focused on environmental missions. During her time at CDL, she delved into the business and technology aspects of climate change and witnessed the positive impact that innovative technologies could have. She met incredible founders and learned about ground-breaking technologies, which opened a new career path in the business space. After her time at CDL, Andrea joined a consulting firm called Massive Insights as a project manager. Although this role was not directly related to climate change, she saw it as a significant opportunity to refine her project management skills and immerse herself in the consulting/business world. She also recognized the importance of data technology in all industries and hopes to apply her knowledge to a more specific sustainability role in the future.
On a personal note, Andrea loves to read and can easily get addicted to TV series. She has re-watched Grey’s Anatomy and Gilmore Girls too many times to admit. She loves animals, especially her dog, Maya. She is a lover of food, coffee, and good music.
