Bachelor of Business Administration, Management & Minor in Linguistics • University of Toronto
Bio
Jinru graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, specialized in management and a minor in Linguistics. Throughout the course of undergrad, she diversified her academic interest and broadened her vision globally. She is dedicated to bringing back to the community and incorporating sustainability into daily life.
During Jinru’s exchange at Kwansei Gakuin University in the summer of her first year, she learned about the UN SDG goals for the first time. She was also largely motivated by the advocacy work her classmates were involved in, which led to her engagement with the students’ union after coming back to her home campus. Through her internship experiences in the summer of her third year, she saw how sustainable frameworks and standards are implemented in China’s real estate and manufacturing companies. These encouraged her to continue her path in sustainability by taking relevant courses upon spring exchange to the University of Mannheim. In order to give back to the community based on her positionality, Jinru began to focus on gendered approaches, as well as learning Indigenous approaches. She actively participated as a volunteer and assisted in a research lab to recruit volunteers. Recently, inspired by the youths that she interacts with during her volunteering at a community café, Studio.89, Jinru is interested by pedagogy in sustainability education.
Jinru enjoys travelling and learning about the culture by talking to the locals -- farmers’ markets are always good places to start with. She would also capture those memories with her camera. Aside from that, she likes thrifting and window shopping.
