Bio
Asiyah graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2022 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies in the interdisciplinary Environment and Business program. During her undergrad, Asiyah completed a range of co-op placements, working for the government at the Ontario Ministry of Energy, the global consulting firm London Economics International, as well as the non-profit Sustainable Waterloo Region.
While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Asiyah wrote for GreenPortfolio, a platform to support climate friendly financial decisions. At GreenPortfolio, she developed a keen interest in the interrelationship between individual financial decisions, and the wellbeing of our planet. Asiyah contributed articles on climate finance and sustainable consumer banking to the blog, producing engaging content designed to decomplexify the climate finance space.
After graduating, Asiyah worked as an Analyst at TD Wealth, where she collaborated in the design and launch of a sustainability report, designed to equip financial advisors with sustainability metrics (portfolio carbon emissions, alignment with UN SDGs) enabling advisors to pinpoint sustainable investment funds that align most closely with client preferences. At TD, Asiyah came to understand the diverse challenges associated with investor adoption of sustainable financial products, ranging from misinformation to greenwashing.
After her departure from TD, Asiyah joined the Canadian Conservation Corps where she spent three months in Fernie, British Columbia, volunteering for the Elk River Alliance where she designed and delivered a place-based environmental education program for elementary and high school students. While working for the Elk River Alliance, she has come to understand the critical role that nonprofits play in mobilizing community climate action and has developed a passion for community-level climate work.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Asiyah enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and gardening, reading, and working on knitting and crochet projects.
