Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management, Environmental Management • University of Guelph
Rob is voted new incoming Vice President External of MScSM Student Executive Council (MSEC) for the 2021-2022 academic year. Congratulations!
Bio
Robert recently graduated from the University of Guelph (Class of 2016) with a Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management – Environmental Management. Upon graduating, he pursued further education and received a post-graduate certificate in Regulatory Affairs – Science, from Algonquin College (Class of 2017). His recent studies have led him to develop an interest in understanding and implementing sustainable regulations from an Indigenous perspective that can promote water, waste and energy management at a local, provincial or federal governmental level.
Robert’s passion for sustainability has led him to actively pursue opportunities that put sustainability at the forefront of a business. This includes his previous work with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, where Robert was responsible for educating residents and stone fruit growers in Niagara about the detrimental effects of the plum pox virus. His efforts to engage with the general public has led him to engage with a wide variety of lay audiences and stakeholders while protecting this multi-million-dollar fruit industry. On-campus, this led him to collaborate with the Aboriginal Resource Centre and other degree programs to raise awareness and funds concerning the northern food crisis in Canada. Since Robert was actively involved with his student council, sustainable events were highly prioritized and promoted (e.g., Sustainability Week, Fossil Free Guelph, Pollinator Conservation Projects and etc,.) More recently, Robert has immersed himself in the private domain of plant science and has previously maintained vertical green walls, large interior landscapes for LEED-certified buildings, and collaborated with business clients to address their plant-related needs.
Early this summer, Robert has begun volunteering for Not Far From The Tree, a non-profit organization that is responsible for picking local fruits and vegetables in Toronto. Since most fruits and vegetables aren’t picked by residents, he has been harvesting fresh produce and has been donating his proceeds to local food banks, community kitchens and health centres.
Apart from working and volunteering his time, Robert enjoys growing a variety of tropical plants to keep his home lush. He also enjoys interacting with the various natural landscapes nearby, or across the world! Instead of purchasing souvenirs, he enjoys photographing these landscapes for everyone to admire. Lastly, Robert enjoys hiking, cycling and gathering with friends and family.
