Bio
Jonathan graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa in 2023 with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. Previously he studied Environmental and Pure & Applied Science at Dawson College in Montreal. Jonathan's diverse studies and professional experiences are driven by his genuine passion for environmentalism and sustainability. He is pursuing a career at the intersection of renewable energy systems and policy analysis, with a deep interest in sustainable urban planning and mass transit systems.
Jonathan has extensive experience in the environmental sustainability space, throughout university and afterwards. In his 2nd year of studies, he completed a Business Development Internship at Carbonbase, a startup that enables enterprises, individuals and communities to measure, reduce, and offset their carbon emissions. He also worked as an Environmental Monitoring Technician with the City of Ottawa in the Infrastructure and Water Services division. In this position, Jonathan monitored the water quality of Ottawa’s rivers and estuaries, investigated sources of pollution, and supported stormwater facility operations to ensure environmental compliance and effective urban water management.
Following his degree, Jonathan began an internship, and eventually a full-time position at Eco Wave Power, a company that developed an innovative technology for the production of clean electricity from ocean and sea waves. As a Business Development Associate, he conducted research and established partnerships for wave energy projects in the US and Europe, successfully securing significant capital through grant and award submissions. Jonathan also represented the company internationally at various industry events with the environmental sustainability sector.
Following his admittance to the MScSM program at UofT, Jonathan moved to Toronto and began an internship at Solar Provider Group, a company that develops large-scale community solar projects in the United States and around the world. There, he supports their project development activities, researches business opportunities in the United States, maps electrical infrastructure, generates leads for land acquisition, reviews environmental policies, and generally supports the development of solar and energy storage projects.
Jonathan’s main interests lie in the outdoors, where he often spends his time skiing, rock climbing, mountain and road biking, hiking, camping, and everything in between. His exposure to adventure sports and the ways that climate change has impacted them has profoundly influenced his commitment to environmentalism and sustainability. He aspires to make a tangible, positive impact on the environment, embodying the 'leave no trace' ethos by aiming to leave the planet in a better state than he found it.
