Bio
Tolu graduated with an Honors Bachelor of Arts (HBA) degree from the University of Toronto in 2021 with a Double major in Political science and Criminology with a minor in sociology. He has a fervent interest in Ethics and Society, Technology, Design, Inclusivity, and Sustainability. He has gained and developed these interests through his entrepreneurial, professional and academic pursuits.
His graduate research is on the "Role of Accurate Waste Data in Empowering AI-Driven Interventions and Informing Policy Reforms in Waste Management in Lagos, Nigeria"; Africa's largest city and one of its primary economic hubs.
Tolu is currently a Graduate Research Assistant at the Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (CCIT) at the University of Toronto currently exploring AI's role as a tool in enhancing student decision-making in a management class in the Networked Information Economy. He believes that as technology evolves, society is going to need to adapt to new ways of learning where technology can supercharge the experience.
Aside from his Summer Internship as a Change Management Lead at BMO, Tolu worked as a Senior Product Development Specialist at a Startup called Fyyne which is backed by Techstars, Google for Startups and a group of notable VCs and angels. He also co-founded a start-up named Envly in the 3rd year of his undergraduate studies which made it easier for people to shop more sustainably through a mobile app; this made him one of the first DCCM (Dream Chaser Change Maker) Award recipients; received $10,000 towards his education and venture for being an outstanding entrepreneurial student.
Tolu's diverse professional and educational experiences and interests have given him the ability to be able to think critically about issues spanning different sectors.
Tolu is a voracious learner who loves staying abreast of the latest advances in technology, video editing, cooking, reading, listening to music across genres, travelling and contemplating how to democratise knowledge and innovation, especially in Technology and Climate Research, two key areas that will shape our future significantly.
