Winter Break Shenanigans: Active Memories from the Holidays

Hey guys, it’s me again! I hope you all had a break filled with rest, joy, and some holiday shenanigans. After what felt like an eternity of assignments and midterms, the winter break was exactly what I needed. Honestly, coming home after months of being away at university felt like the moment you finally get to take off a pair of shoes that I’ve been pinching your feet all day—pure relief. Walking through that door and hearing my mom’s voice felt like all the stress from the semester just melted away. It's like being reunited with your favourite blanket—comforting, warm, and exactly what I needed.
It wasn’t just the relief of being home that hit me right away—it was the simple, yet powerful, connection with my loved ones. I didn’t realize how much I missed them until I sat with my mom, just talking about everything and nothing. Being back under the same roof as my family reminded me of how much I’ve grown and how much I’ve missed the familiar things that make home... well, home.
But let’s not pretend it was all just chilling by the fire with hot cocoa (though that definitely happened). I’m all about making the most of my time off, and what better way to do that than by staying active? I mean, it’s winter—yes, it’s cold and cozy, but there’s something about the chill air that makes you want to move, especially when you’re back in your hometown.
We'd lace up our boots every morning and head out into the wild, exploring new paths and challenges and getting lost in the season's beauty. Some days, the trails were slippery, and others were muddy, but we made it a fun game. But it wasn’t just about the walks. I also made it a point to get my dance moves back in action. It was time to shake off the stress and have fun. I’d throw on my favourite playlists, crank up the volume, and let loose.
Every day felt like a bit of adventure, a break from the chaos of university life, and a chance to reconnect with myself and my family. But now, as the new semester looms, I'm bringing these moments with me. The energy of those winter walks, the joy of dancing through my living room, and the warmth of being surrounded by people who get me. It’s easy to forget in the rush of deadlines and exams, but sometimes, the most important thing you can do for yourself is to press pause and reconnect with the things that make you feel alive.
What if, this semester, I brought a little of that holiday energy into everything I do? The trail walks were just the beginning... stay tuned. You never know what’s next. Maybe I’ll tackle the ultimate 3x30 personal training program here at the RAWC? Or maybe a quick splash at the UTM pool? Perhaps I'll find new ways to stay active that I never thought of before. The holiday break showed me that a little movement, fun, and energy can go a long way. So here’s to making 2025 a semester where we don’t just survive—we thrive. Ready to take on the next adventure? You’ll have to stick around to find out!
