Join us for Aquatics at UTM!

Our eight-lane, 25 metre pool is set up to offer recreational swimming opportunities, swimming lessons for various age groups and women’s only swim programs. Visit our master calendar to see which aquatic programs fit with your schedule.

Additional Features of our Pool

  • Shallow End
    There is a variable depth shallow end which will be adjusted depending on the needs of the programs. Please refer to the Recreational Swim Schedule to see the availability of the shallow end.
  • Accessibility
    All swim courses and programs are fully accessible. The change rooms are fully accessible and enter directly onto the pool deck. We are equipped with a lift for the mobility impaired, which can access either the spa or the pool.
  • Spa
    There is a whirlpool on the pool deck that will be available for use whenever there is fitness swimming or fun swim scheduled. It will be available for women only during women's-only swim hours.

UTM Pool Rules

Pool Admission Rules – UTM Fun Swim

Patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) who is responsible for their direct supervision at all

times.

Parents or guardians must be students/members or day pass holders. Patrons are not required to purchase a day pass.

Direct supervision must be maintained with those children under 18 years according to the following criteria:

  1. Bathing attire must be worn by the parent/guardian.
  2. If the patron can pass our facility deep end test they can swim anywhere within eyesight of their guardian.
  3. If the patron cannot pass the test they must remain within arm's reach of their guardian at all times.
  4. The supervising parent or guardian is required to be in the water at all times regardless of swimming ability.

A maximum number of six (6) patrons may accompany any one parent/guardian providing no more than two (2) cannot complete the facility swim test. If any one of the patrons cannot complete the facility swim test they must remain within arm’s reach of the parent/guardian, with a maximum number of non-swimmers per parent/guardian of two (2).

Patrons aged 5 years or younger are not eligible to take the swim test and must maintain a ratio of 1 parent/guardian to 2 patrons

Ratios of instructors/lifeguards to bathers must also be maintained as per Peel Public Health Regulation 565.

To ensure a pleasant experience for swimmers, please note that this facility is open to all students and RAWC members regardless of ability, race, gender, sexuality or age. The following rules are intended to create a welcoming and safe environment for all. We appreciate your cooperation.

UTM Pool Swim Test

Both of the following criteria must be completed, one directly after the other, to the satisfaction of the on-duty pool supervisor.

  1. Patron must jump in the water, submerging their head
  2. Patron must be able to swim on their front with their face in the water two widths of the pool without stopping. Coming up for at least 1 breath each width.
  3. Patron must tread water (surface support) for 60 seconds without touching the wall.
PLEASE DOPLEASE DO NOT
  • Shower using warm water and soap.
  • Select a lane appropriate to your own speed, where possible.
  • Always remain aware of your surroundings while swimming.
  • Swim in a circular loop, following the pattern as outlined on the lane swim signs
  • Feel free to rest at the ends of a double lane.
  • Feel free to bring your own swimming equipment (hand paddles, pull buoys, and kickboards).
  • Exit the pool immediately at the closest side upon hearing one long whistle blast.
  • Enter the pool if you have not showered using warm water and soap.
  • Take any photos or videos. Photography and videography, including the use of camera phones, are prohibited in all facilities.
  • Pollute the water in the pool in any manner. Spitting, spouting of water and blowing the nose in the pool or on the deck are prohibited.
  • Bring any glass containers onto the deck or into the pool, change rooms or viewing gallery.
  • Wear outdoor shoes on deck.
