As summer ends, a new academic year kicks off at UTM! September brings the excitement of orientations, making new friends, and getting back to the familiar routines of being a student. Amidst this excitement, the idea of staying active can seem daunting, especially if the gym feels like an intimidating space for you, or you struggle to find the time to exercise. Handling a new syllabus and classes and adapting to a new schedule can be tough, and it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Remember that you are not alone, and that it is okay to take things one step at a time!

Staying active does not have to be overwhelming and can be easier than you think! Here are 3 tips that you can use to keep yourself active this September and make the most out of the start of the school year.

1. Build in time for movement over the course of your day.

One of the best ways to stay active is to integrate movement naturally into your daily routines. Instead of seeing working out as a separate chore, find opportunities to move throughout your day. Walking between your classes, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or hitting the nature trails around campus are all great ways to get your heart pumping and clear your mind. These small changes can make a big difference without a dedicated and exhausting workout session!

2. Attend our Drop In & Move event on Sept 12th, 12-6pm at the RAWC.
