Petitions

From time to time, students encounter unforeseen situations that can severely interfere with their capacity to fulfill their academic obligations during the term. It's essential for students to be aware of their options for support - including having an honest conversation with faculty, and seeking advising support to better understand their next steps.

During the term, students are expected to connect with their instructor or the department directly to raise questions, concerns, and matters involving term work, such as the organization of a course, grading practices, or the conduct of an instructor fall under the authority of the department offering the course. Students must review their course syllabus for information on assessments, deadlines, procedures around missed term work, and other instructions.

Once the term has ended, students may submit a formal petition to the Office of the Registrar. A petition is a request for an exemption from a university rule, regulation or deadline that applies to all students at the university. Through the petition procedure, the university may offer additional accommodations to support students experiencing extenuating circumstances.
