🗣️ Mental Health & Counselling

University can be a stressful time. Consider making an appointment with one of our personal counsellors. Counselling is a private & confidential, non-judgmental, space to talk with a mental health professional about anything that is on your mind or impacting your quality of life. You do not need to have a mental illness or be in a crisis situation to talk to a counsellor. Counselling can help relieve distress, improve mood, build resilience, and enhance self-esteem.

We offer daily same-day personal counselling appointments and book ahead availability for all eligible students.

The HCC provides a variety of approaches to support student mental health in the way that works best for each individual student.

We strive to personalize by providing individual wellness plans for students wanting to address their mental well-being.

For more details on the various supports and services available to you, please see the resource links below.

Our mental health supports us in being able to do the things we want or need to do. Our mental health provides us with the capacity to build skills to manage life’s challenges.

It is normal to experience brief periods of sadness, hopelessness, isolation, and anxiety under certain circumstances (such as during exams or with a loss of a loved one). When struggling with such issues for prolonged periods of time it may be detrimental to your physical and psychological well-being and can be related to a mental illness.

Unlike physical illnesses that often present with visual signs and symptoms, mental illness can be elusive and difficult to recognize.

Although each illness is manifested in its own way, there are some general signs and symptoms that are often associated with mental illness.

If you are concerned about yourself or a friend that may have some of these signs and symptoms, we encourage you to call the Health & Counselling Centre at 905-828-5255 or drop by the clinic (DV 1152) to speak to a personal counsellor, nurse or physician.
