Snil “Sunny” Sahanan Memorial Scholarship

The Snil "Sunny" Sahanan Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a University of Toronto Mississauga student enrolled in an anthropology specialist, major or minor program. The complete eligibility criteria and application requirements are listed below.

Application deadline and approximate value

  • Applications (including application form and essay or other coursework) must be submitted by Monday, December 2, 2024 at 9:00 AM EST.
  • The 2024-25 award has an approximate value of $1,215.05 CAD.

Eligibility

  • The student is enrolled in an anthropology program (specialist, major or minor).
  • The student is required to submit an original essay or relevant coursework that reflects the theme of “non-violence in international relations”. Submissions of existing work may include, but are not limited to:
    • presentations
    • recorded talks
    • photo essays
    • video
    • podcast
  • Preference will be given to a student with a record of social activism. 
  • The student must have demonstrated financial need in accordance with university guidelines.
  • Students may submit an application or can be nominated by faculty within the Department of Anthropology.

Decisions

The Chair of the department will review the applications with a committee and make the final selection.


How to apply (all submissions must be received by the deadline)

  1. Submit the online application form. Please note the online form is only open during the application period.
  2. Submit your essay or other coursework via email to the Departmental Assistant at secretary.utmanthro@utoronto.ca
    1. Essays must be in the following format:
      • two to three pages long
      • 1.5 line spacing
      • 12 point Times New Roman font
      • 1" margin
      • Word or PDF file
    2. If you are submitting a video or podcast, please email us a link (do not send video or audio files via email).
