Kate Steinmann is a Research Development Specialist in UTM’s Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation. An award-winning writer, editor, and art historian with a background in publishing and strategic communications, she holds an MA and PhD in art history, visual art, and theory from UBC and is a U of T alumna. Her research areas include contemporary photography, technology, and biopolitics as well as 19th-century North American print culture. Kate joins us from the Office of Research Services in the Faculty of Arts & Science, where she was a Funded Research Officer; previously she was Editorial and Proposal Development Officer in the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation, at UTSC. Before joining U of T, Kate worked as a content strategist and writer for a large human-centred design consultancy and held publishing roles at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago. She was a core member of the editorial teams at the long-running Vancouver-based contemporary art magazines Fillip and Yishu and has worked independently for art museums and art book publishers in the US, Canada, and Europe.
