Living in Residence
ACE Dons
During your stay with us, you will live in a community with other ACE@UTM students. In this close community of students, you will have an ACE Don. Your Don is an upper year student who will be here to guide and support you through your residence experience.
ACE Residence Move-In & Orientation
Prior to arrival, all ACE@UTM students are required to begin the process of getting their student TCard and activating their UofT email address. Please follow the instructions found online here to begin this process. If you complete these steps before your scheduled residence move-in date, your student TCard will be available for pick-up during your move-in to residence. If you have any questions about this process, please contact ace.utm@utoronto.ca.
ACE@UTM students living in Residence will take part in our unique ACE Residence Orientation programs. Orientation is an important event for all ACE@UTM students, providing an overall experience of the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and the areas surrounding campus, including the Greater Toronto Area. During orientation, students will have the opportunity to meet fellow peers enrolled in the ACE@UTM program and upper year UTM student leaders.
Things to look forward to at Orientation include:
- Meet your community and ACE Don
- Community Dinner
- Nature Walk & Visit the Community Garden
ACE Residence Programming
Those living in residence during the Summer ACE@UTM program can participate in additional programming to further develop their English language skills and feel a sense of community.
- English Conversation Circles
- Field trips in the GTA (e.g., to Canada’s Wonderland, Toronto Zoo, etc.)
- Community Gatherings: Community gatherings bring the community together on a monthly basis and allow students to receive important information about their community, residence, and the campus. They are also social spaces for you to make connections with other students!
- One-on-one conversations with your ACE Don
Living in residence provides easy access to events and attractions in the GTA. In addition to participating in residence programs, ACE students are encouraged to explore some of the many attractions the GTA has to offer including the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Blue Jays games, Toronto Zoo, CN Tower, etc.
Excellence Lives Here
Students participating in the Summer ACE@UTM Program are strongly encouraged to consider living in residence for the duration of their program. Living in residence provides students numerous opportunities to develop the necessary skills to be successful during their post-secondary education in Canada. Additionally, on average students living on campus are 15.6% more likely to successfully complete the ACE@UTM program than their peers who chose to live off-campus.
During the ACE program, the residence members gave me insight on how to succeed in academics and have an invigorating campus life. As the residence department says “excellence lives here.” I enjoyed meeting everyone in the program and got a strong bond by getting through the difficulties together as one. This residence did not merely provide a place to sleep, but a place to make life-long friends and experiences that will last throughout my life. – Jun, past ACE student
