Things to Consider:
Depending on your current needs, there are a lot of things to consider before renting off-campus as different people require different things. Before you start your housing search, take a moment to reflect and consider what you need vs. what you want. For example, if you do your laundry twice a week, a unit with on-site laundry will be best suited for your needs. If you cannot live with messy people, a one bedroom might be ideal.
Here are some things to consider beforehand:
Commute – How long is the commute to school? Is it a walking distance to a MiWay bus stop?
Furnished vs unfurnished – Can I afford to buy and move furniture? If I’m here for only a year is it worth it to furnish my place?
Laundry – Is a washer/dryer in the unit? Is there a laundromat close by?
Utilities – Are utilities included or provided at an additional cost? Should I get cable?
Housing Style – Is a basement, house, condo or apartment right for me?
Neighbourhood – Are there things to do here? How close is the nearest grocery store?
Roommates – It is more affordable to live with someone, how many roommates can I live with?
