What's Fair Trade all about?
Fair Trade supports the farmers & workers in the countries where our commodities like coffee, cocoa, and bananas come from.
Fair Trade Minimum Price
producers receive a price that covers the cost of sustainable production and protects them from fluctuating market prices
Fair Trade Premium
over and above the Minimum Price, the Premium goes into a communal fund to support the workers and their communities, and the producers determine how the fund will be spent
Fair Trade is 50% owned by the producers
producers have a say on overall strategy, use of resources, and setting prices, premiums, and standards
Jump over to the Fair Trade Blog and enjoy learning about Fair Trade producers across the globe including insider knowledge from subject matter experts and exclusive guest posts.
What role has UTM taken to support Fair Trade?
UTM was recognized as the FIRST Silver-level Fair Trade Campus in Canada! What does that mean you ask? Well, it recognizes our dedication to educating our community and our pursuit of bringing more Fair Trade products to campus to support awareness of Fair Trade brands.
In 2020 we were awarded the Fair Trade Trailblazer award for our dedication! We were the first campus in Canada to earn the Silver Campus dedication, as well as presenting at the National Fair Trade Conference, and sitting on a few presenting panels discussing our commitment to Fair Trade. We are very proud of this!
