Xian is a post-doc at the Department of Management at UTM. He works with Soo Min Toh and Sonia Kang. Xian finished his PhD in Social Psychology at the University of Kansas, where he worked with Monica Biernat. He is broadly interested in the consequences of perceiving others as members of social groups, and he will be studying intergroup relations in organizational contexts at U of T. His PhD work investigated the consequences of whitening ethnic names as an assimilation practice and how the status of immigrants’ country of origin affects members of the host country’s assimilation attitudes. He'll be continuing and extending that work as a postdoc.
