About SEE@UTM

Support. Engage. Experience (SEE) is an access program launched in collaboration between the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and the Peel District School Board. The SEE@UTM program aims to make post-secondary education more accessible to Highschool students from communities that have historically faced systemic oppression as it relates to accessing and experiencing education. The aim of SEE UTM is to encourage program participants to make informed decisions about their future.  Through engagement with classes, experiential learning, and campus life at University of Toronto Mississauga, students will be able to further explore if they’d like to pursue post-secondary education after high school. Ujima

Ujima is a Swahili term that means "collective work and responsibility" and is used as a principle for the celebratory African holiday Kwanzaa. Ujima acts as a reminder to build and maintain community and to approach problems in a collective action. 

The symbol is Akoma Ntoaso - the Adinkra symbol of shared effort and obligation 

Ujima is a principle that we use to ground the work in the SEE@UTM program. When bringing students, community, and the campus together we strive to teach others about the importance of its meaning. We ask that others willing and wanting to participate embody the meaning of this principle. We strive to emulate this principle by leading through example.
