The UTM Parents, Families, & Supporters (PFS) Orientation is for parents, families, and supporters of incoming UTM students to learn more about UTM. It is an opportunity for you to get the information you need to be the best support for your student during their transition to university!

Orientation sessions focus on academic expectations, finance & degree planning, student engagement, student wellness, campus resources and other topics related to the university experience. At the Parents, Families, & Supporters Orientation, you are introduced to the UTM community including students, staff and faculty members. 

While you attend PFS Orientation, we encourage your student to attend orientation for incoming students! More information on new students orientation can be found here.


 

Parents, Families, & Supporters Orientation 2026

The UTM Parents, Families, & Supporters Orientation 2026 will take place on September 4–5, 2026. Parents, families, and supporters may choose to attend either September 4 or September 5, as both days will feature the same program content.

Event Information

This event will be taking place in the Instructional Centre (IB) in IB110 from 11:00AM-4:00PM. 

Welcome Session (11:00AM - 11:30AM)

Kick off your Parents, Families, and Supporters Orientation experience with a warm welcome to UTM! You'll receive an overview of the day's schedule, hear from the Dean of Students, and learn what to expect as your student begins their university journey. 

Professor's Insights on Academic Success (11:30AM - 12:15PM)

Hear from a UTM professor about what it takes to succeed academically at university. Learn about the student learning experience, the importance of professor-student relationships, and practical ways you can support your student as they navigate their academic journey.

Break (12:15PM - 1:30PM)

Resource Fair (12:15PM - 3:00PM) (IB Atrium)

Connect with campus departments and learn about the wide range of services, programs, and resources available to support your student's academic, personal, and campus experience. This is an opportunity to ask questions, discover supports, and learn how UTM can help your student succeed.

Finance & Degree Planning (1:30PM - 2:15PM)

Gain a better understanding of your student's academic journey at UTM. Learn about degree requirements, important academic milestones, and key financial considerations so you can confidently support your student throughout their university experience.

Living In Residence (2:15PM - 3:00PM)

Learn about the residence experience at UTM and the supports available to help your student thrive while living on campus. Please note that this session is designed for parents, families, and supporters of incoming residence students.

THRIVE IN: Supporting Your International Student (3:00PM - 3:45PM)

Learn about the supports available to international students at UTM as well as how you can better support them as an international parent/supporter. This session will help you learn more about the Canadian education system, immigration requirements, health insurance, programs available to support your student’s success and more.

Closing Reception (3:45PM - 4:00PM)
