Individual Student Leadership Awards
The Centre for Student Engagement offers 9 Individual Student Leadership Awards. To learn more about each award's description, eligibility, and selection criteria for the current academic year, please click the title of each award below. These awards celebrate student involvement and leadership in UTM's values as well as impact on the UTM community.
2024-2025 UTM Leadership Achievement Awards

Principal's Award of Excellence
The Principal's Award of Excellence in Student Leadership annually recognizes students who have demonstrated an outstanding level of leadership in at least three of the following UTM values over the course of their university careers: Collaboration, Leadership Development, Equity & Inclusion, Innovation, Advancing Justice for Indigenous Communities, Wellness, Sustainability, and Global and Intercultural Engagement. Their achievements have benefitted their peers as well as contributed to the betterment of the University community.
Laura Krajewski Student Mentorship
The Laura Krajewski Student Mentorship Award recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated a commitment to mentorship through their campus involvement. This award will be presented to an individual who has demonstrated leadership as a mentor by encouraging and motivating fellow UTM students in their personal, academic and professional growth.
Emerging Student Leader
The UTM Emerging Student Leader Award recognizes new-to-UTM students who have demonstrated a commitment to involvement and aspire to improve and contribute to the UTM campus. This award will be presented to an individual who is involved in the UTM community and building a strong foundation for future growth and leadership. New-to-UTM students includes first-year, transfer and any students who are completing their first year at UTM.
Zeynab Asadi Lari Healthy Campus
The Zeynab Asadi Lari Healthy Campus Award is presented to a student who has made an outstanding contribution in support of student health and well-being and the development of a healthy campus environment at UTM. This award will consider student health and wellness from a holistic perspective, including physical, emotional, social, and other relevant dimensions
Advancing Black Excellence & Inclusion
The UTM Leadership Achievement Award in Advancing Black Excellence & Inclusion recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated a commitment to building relationships with Black-identifying students through their campus involvement. This award will be presented to an individual who has championed the work of creating a more inclusive and welcoming campus for Black-identifying students.
Advancing Justice for Indigenous Communities
The UTM Leadership Achievement Award in Advancing Justice for Indigenous Communities recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated a commitment to building relationships with Indigenous Communities through their campus involvement. This award will be presented to an individual who has demonstrated commitment and provided examples of ways they have advanced the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada by building relationships with Indigenous Communities, Wecheehetowin [meaning “working together” in Cree] and sharing in the process of reconciliation. Identifying as Indigenous is not a requirement of this award.
Equity & Inclusion
The UTM Leadership Achievement Award in Equity and Inclusion recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through their campus involvement. This award will be presented to an individual who has contributed to making UTM a more intentionally inclusive campus through the delivery of programming, community collaboration and outreach, and/or social justice initiatives.
Global & Intercultural Engagement
The UTM Leadership Achievement Award in Global and Intercultural Engagement recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated a commitment to global interconnectedness and engagement through their campus involvement. This award will be presented to an individual who has contributed to making UTM a more global and interculturally fluent campus while inspiring the student body to raise awareness and take action on globally relevant themes.
Sustainability
The UTM Leadership Achievement Award in Equity and Inclusion recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through their campus involvement. This award will be presented to an individual who has contributed to making UTM a more intentionally inclusive campus through the delivery of programming, community collaboration and outreach, and/or social justice initiatives.
Submission Process
An award submissions package includes a Completed nomination form:
- Section A: Nominee Information, completed by the nominee
- Section B: Nominator Information, completed by the nominator
- Section C: Award Designation, completed by the nominee
- Section D: Application Questions, completed by the nominee
- Section E: Summary Citation, completed by the nominee
- Section F: Evaluation of Nominee, completed by the nominator
