Writing is hard! Sometimes we need help with our writing, and sometimes it’s just easier to be creative and to find inspiration when there are other people who look like you around. Consider coming to the Caribbean & Black Writing Collective if you are looking for a space to work on your writing. Faculty members who have expertise in numeracy and writing instruction will be present at the CBWC and they will be there to answer your questions, offer support related to your concerns and help you with your writing.

You can come if you have questions about your draft, you can stay to work on your writing in the company of others who share your identity and learning experiences. You’ll be surprised about how much of a difference that a collective of this nature can make for your writing experience and your academic journey at UTM. Snacks will be provided. Hope to see you there!

CBWC Procedures for Fall 2024:

  • Students can request consultations with a faculty member. We strongly encourage students to use the Caribbean & Black Writing Collective for individual writing time after consulting with a writing instructor. Keep in mind that instructors’ ability to provide individual consultations is determined in part by the number of students participating in the collective.
  • Faculty members are not editors or proof-readers. Students are responsible for correcting or revising their own work.
  • Faculty members in the Caribbean & Black Writing Collective are not substitutes for your course instructors or Teaching Assistants (TAs). Faculty members can only discuss your writing. Questions about course content should be directed to your course instructor or TA.
  • The Caribbean & Black Writing Collective is not a substitute for one-on-one online consultations (held via WCONLINE) at the RGASC. Please consult the RGASC website for more information about one-on-one appointments.
  • You are encouraged to work with your peers to work through your assignments.
