  • What was the profile of the past participants?
    This program attracts individuals from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. Participants have included accounting professionals from international, regional, and local accounting firms, public sector organizations, and corporate entities. The program has also welcomed entrepreneurs looking to establish their own tax practices, as well as internationally trained accountants.

  • Can non-CPAs apply?
    Yes, non-CPAs are welcome to apply. While many participants in previous cohorts have held a Canadian or international CPA designation, it is not mandatory. Applicants with relevant tax-related work experience may qualify for admission based on their professional background. Each application is evaluated based on academic qualifications and work experience.


  • Does the program take place entirely online?
    Yes, the program is delivered entirely online via Zoom. This format provides flexibility and accessibility, allowing participants to engage with the content and instructors from anywhere. The program includes live interactive sessions, recorded materials, and online resources to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.


  • Do U of T help with job placement?
    This certificate program does not have a formal job placement component. However, participants can still benefit from valuable networking opportunities with peers and faculty throughout the program. Additionally, we maintain a LinkedIn group for program graduates, where employers can post job openings and our growing community can connect. As the program evolves, we plan to strengthen employer engagement and expand job support services to better serve our graduates in the future.

  •  Does the program qualify for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours?
    Yes. The program hours qualify for verifiable CPD hours.


  • Can I take one or more of the courses on a standalone basis?
    The courses are not available as standalone offerings. The program is designed to be taken in sequence, with each course building on the knowledge and skills developed in the previous one. This sequential structure ensures a comprehensive and cohesive learning experience.


  • Are there any scholarships or financing options available?
    While the program does not offer scholarships or direct funding, we provide installment payment plans to help make the cost more manageable. Group discounts are also available, particularly for firms enrolling teams. If you have access to external funding or sponsorship opportunities, we’re happy to assist with any required documentation or application processes to support your funding application.

    No.


  • Are T2202s issued for a tuition tax credit?
    Yes. The T2202 issued will be pro-rated as the program runs over both two tax years.

The need for such credentials varies by province and falls under the regulation of CPA Canada.

    This program is designed to equip you with essential skills and knowledge to excel in tax preparation and serve as a strong foundation for your career. Upon completion, participants receive a University of Toronto certification, which enhances professional credibility and recognition.


  • What if I have a personal emergency and miss part of the program?
    The program consists of 5 distinct courses, ranging from 4 to 6 weeks in length. If you miss a session or two, you can catch up by viewing the video recordings and ensuring all assignments are submitted on time. However, if you miss an entire course, you have the option to take it in the next cohort. Please note that any make-up courses must be taken with the immediately following cohort and cannot be extended beyond that timeframe.


  •  What is the overall and weekly time commitment of the program?
    The program is designed to be manageable for working professionals. Each course typically requires a time commitment of around 6 to 8 hours per week, including live sessions, independent study, and completing assignments. The overall time commitment for the entire program varies based on individual pace. We recommend scheduling consistent study time each week to stay on track and fully engage with the course materials.


  • What if I need help with the homework assignments?
    Our instructors are committed to supporting your learning throughout the program. If you need help with homework assignments, you can reach out directly to the instructor for guidance. Additionally, there are group discussions where you can collaborate with fellow participants to clarify concepts and get advice. We encourage active participation to maximize your learning experience.


  • What if I miss an assignment?
    If you miss a homework assignment, we encourage you to catch up as quickly as possible to avoid falling behind. Assignments are typically designed to reinforce key concepts, so staying on top of them is important for your overall success in the program. In most cases, instructors may allow brief extensions on assignments, but it’s best to reach out directly to discuss your situation. Late submissions may be subject to a penalty, so it’s important to plan accordingly and communicate early if you anticipate needing extra time.
