Enhanced SharePoint Data Storage Guidelines for UTM Community

There is now expanded data storage capabilities on SharePoint Online, aligning with the university's stringent Information Security Guidelines. This update now supports the storage of Level 1-4 data, encompassing sensitive information such as financial details and legal documents. Previously restricted to lower data levels, this enhancement enables enhanced collaboration and secure access across the university community.

  • Enhanced Security: SharePoint Online meets UTM’s baseline requirements for confidential data storage, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Data Residency: All SharePoint Online content is securely stored in Canadian data centres, maintaining data residency requirements.
  • Accountability: Site owners are accountable for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, with guidelines provided to assess risk and manage content appropriately.
  • Student Information Protection: Measures are in place to protect student information stored within Office 365 products, including @utoronto.ca email addresses and Delve profiles.
