Explore Hands-On Learning with the HIS498Y5 Internship Course

A History degree opens doors to careers in museums, archives, and cultural organizations. The HIS498Y5 internship course offers students an opportunity to hone their research skills under the supervision of a faculty member, and apply these skills in work settings such as museums, archives, and historical societies. Students will develop professional skill sets as they contribute to the public understanding of history and build relationships with people working in historical fields beyond the university.
Students in this course have completed internships at leading institutions, including:
- ArQuives (Canadian LGBTQ+ Archives)
- Canadian Arab Institute
- City of Mississauga
- Heritage Mississauga
- Heritage Toronto
- Holocaust Library
- Ministry of Indigenous Affairs
- Oakville Museum
- Peel Art Gallery, Museum, and Archives (PAMA)
- Royal Ontario Museum

HIS498Y5 is an academic internship course for History specialists, majors, and minors entering their fourth year of their degree. (Applicants from other years may also be considered.) Eligible students must have completed at least five History credits and have a minimum 3.0 CGPA. While this course is designed for History specialists, majors, and minors entering their fourth year, students from other years may also be considered.
