The Experiential Education Unit (EEU) in the Office of the Vice-Principal Academic and Dean is pleased to offer the Ulrich J. Krull Research Excellence Award to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in the Research Opportunity Program (ROP). The EEU will distribute up to three awards to full, or part-time, upper-year students (third year or higher) who have completed a 300- or 400- level ROP course between May 1, 2023, and April 30, 2024. The award is based on academic merit and there is an attached monetary value.
Students are nominated by their ROP course instructors. Nomination packages should include a statement from the ROP course instructor outlining a rationale for the nomination and the student’s contribution to research in their disciplinary field. Course instructors may also choose to attach a sample of the student’s research deliverables (e.g., report, journal article, etc.) to the nomination.
Nominations must be submitted by the Chair/Director on behalf of the course instructor. Each academic unit may nominate one (1) student across all of their ROP courses for consideration of this award. Please note that students cannot be nominated for both the Dean’s Award for Research Excellence and the Ulrich J. Krull Research Excellence Award in the same year.
Nominations will be reviewed based on the following criteria: independence, rigour, creativity, intellectual/professional growth, contribution to the field, research methods/outcomes, and overall performance of the student.
To streamline the selection of multiple nominations, Chairs and Directors are advised to establish their own internal deadlines for selecting nominations from their various ROP courses at least one week in advance of the April 12 deadline.
Award recipients will be notified prior to graduation award ceremonies.
Nomination packages should be submitted to rop.utm@utoronto.ca no later than end-of-day Friday, April 12, 2024.
