Emily Maggiacomo

Title/Position
Sessional Lecturer
Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy

Emily holds a B.A. (Hons.) in English from the University of Toronto, an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Queen’s University, and a Ph.D. in English with a Graduate Focus in Disability Studies from the University of Manitoba. Her research primarily lies in representations of mental illness in literature, and her doctoral research investigated antipsychiatry-era novels written by mentally ill authors. While completing her doctoral degree, Emily became increasingly immersed with the teaching of writing. She has taught a wide variety of literature and writing classes, both within English departments and from a multidisciplinary approach, and has been heavily involved in writing centres as a coordinator and instructor. She has a particular passion for strengthening students’ confidence in writing and guiding them to uncover the value in studying written texts.
