UTM115H5: Communication Among Cultures (SSC, HUM)


The 0.5 credit from this course can be used toward either your Social Science (SSC) or Humanities (HUM) distribution requirement.  Offered in the Fall 2024 term (September-December).

This course is an introduction to inter-cultural communication primarily in the areas of writing and speaking. It is designed to address fundamental skills related to language use in the academic setting by focusing on topics such as customs, attitudes, beliefs, and values. Specific examples will be drawn from real-life university situations, and multiple viewpoints on the nature of diversity in communication will be discussed. The course will focus on topics such as customs, beliefs and values, and the nature of diversity in communication.

This course is appropriate for English Language Learners and students interested in intercultural communication.
