Lilia Topouzova has been Nominated for Heritage Toronto's 2024 Public History Award

Lilia Topouzova's exhibit, the Neighbours. A room in a museum is recrated to look like a living room, with a projection screen used to simulate an open window.

The Neighbours, a public history art installation developed by ICCIT professor Lilia Topouzova alongside Julian Chehirian and Krasmira Butseva, has been nominated for Heritage Toronto's 2024 Public History Award.

The Neighbours brings to light the silenced and faded memories of survivors of political violence during the Communist era in Bulgaria by partially recreating their homes as an interactive installation. This installation was showcased on-campus in 2023 and was chosen to represent Bulgaria at The Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy in 2024.

The Heritage Toronto Public History Award recognizes multimedia and collaborative projects specifically designed to engage, challenge, and educate the public. You can read more about Lilia's project and the other nominees on the Heritage Toronto website.
