Congratulations to Dr. Paula Sánchez Núñez de Villavicencio!

Congratulations to Dr. Paula Sánchez Núñez de Villavicencio on successfully defending her doctoral thesis!

Paula's research explores the historical and political dimensions of media technology used for the governance, subjectivation, and surveillance of select populations. Her thesis, Optical Media from the Middle Ages to AI: Integrating Humans, Sight, and Information, was supervised by ICCIT professor Jeremy Packer.

We thank Paula for her profound contributions to the ICCIT during her years as a PhD student, notably including her co-authorship of The Prison House of the Circuit in 2022 with both her supervisor Jeremy and faculty member Kate Maddalena. She will be missed at UTM as she moves on to a post-doctoral position at the University of Waterloo.
