The Neighbours, a public history art installation developed by ICCIT professor Lilia Topouzova alongside Julian Chehirian and Krasmira Butseva, has taken home the People's Choice Award at the 49th Annual Heritage Toronto Awards.

The Neighbours brings to light the silenced and faded memories of survivors of political violence during the Communist era in Bulgaria by partially recreating their homes as an interactive installation. Prior to being nominated for this prestigious award, this installation was showcased on-campus in 2023 and was chosen to represent Bulgaria at The Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy in 2024.

The 49th Annual Heritage Toronto Awards took place on October 28th at the Carlu. The ceremony celebrated recent multimedia and collaborative projects that contributed to Toronto's history and heritage.
