Dean's Excellence Award 

2021 alumna and IVNVI Treasurer Jasmin Orr was announced as one of the winners of the 2021 Dean's Excellence Award.

Out of many of nominees, Jasmin's FSC481 Research Internship study, titled Differences between male and female suicide and self-harm behaviour among Ontario adolescents: a 5-year retrospective study, earned her the spot in the Excellence in Experiential Partnership Learning category. Jasmin was nominated by FSC481 instructor, and program director, Dr. Tracy Rogers.

​We are extremely proud of having two forensic science students chosen as winners of the 2020 Student Leadership Award! Forensic Biology specialist Anjalika Balasuriya, and Forensic Anthropology specialist Grace Chan were selected as two of the 150 award reciepients among the entire U of T tri campus student body. 
 

The University of Toronto Student Leadership Award continues U of T’s long-standing tradition of recognizing outstanding student leadership, service, and commitment to the university. In naming the award in his honour, the University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA) recognized his leadership and service across various spheres, as well as his term at the university. During the award’s 25-year history, it celebrated the exemplary contributions of more than 4,000 students whose commitment and service had a lasting impact on their peers and the university.
 

The University of Toronto Student Leadership Award (UTSLA) continues the Cressy Award legacy. Recipients of this award will join the distinguished community of past Cressy Award recipients in being honoured for their exemplary leadership and service to U of T.

 Jessica Lam (left) served as the President of the UTM Forensics Society (IVNVI) for 3 years (2009-2012) and transformed the student club into a recognized Academic Society, despite many political obstacles. By refining the goals of the society and revamping its affiliations and events, IVNVI offered many educational conferences and experience opportunities while also providing a tight-knit, supportive community for undergraduates. Jessica represented IVNVI at the downtown Toronto's Chemistry Nuit Blanche, coordinated guest speakers and events involving UTM alumni, ECSpeRT, and the Toronto Police Service, and was also involved in facilitating and supervising multiple on-campus CSI House tours. Under Jessica's presidency, IVNVI won 3 awards presented by the University of Toronto Mississauga Student Union (UTMSU) and Academic Societies Affairs Committee (ASAC) for excellent student/faculty involvement and campus outreach.

Sharon Ling (right) is a passionate student who has contributed to various humanitarian causes throughout her undergraduate career. She has been involved with the UTM Red Cross, International Humanitarian Aid Project (iHAP), and is the founder of the Pre-Medical Club. In addition, she served as a Facilitated Study Group Leader for first-year courses. Through her involvement, she has participated in several awareness campaigns and fundraisers, such as "Give a Day campaign" which fights against HIV/AIDS, the "Malaria Project" which raises funds for novel treatments of severe malaria, and "Even Wars Have Limits" which works toward ending the practice of using children as soldiers. Sharon spent two summers as a field volunteer with iHAP in Central America aiding local doctors, which prompted her to launch sponsorship and funding proposals for students who wished to but could not afford volunteer trips with iHAP. As the founder and President of the Pre-Medical Club, Sharon worked with UofT medical students to introduce a series of lectures on global health dilemmas to UTM students.
