Bio
Elva (Meilun), a 2022 graduate of the University of Toronto, holds an Honours Bachelor of Science with a double major in Environmental Studies and Cognitive Science. Having spent her high school years in Vancouver, she had the privilege of immersing herself in the breathtaking landscapes and embracing the natural environment that surrounded her. This formative experience significantly influenced her decision to pursue environmental studies during her undergraduate journey. Throughout her bachelor's degree, Elva had the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive range of environmental-related courses, including Global Warming, Interdisciplinary Environmentalism Studies, Urban Sustainability, and many more. These courses provided her with a well-rounded understanding of the pressing environmental issues our world faces today.
During the final year of her undergraduate studies, Elva had the privilege of participating in a research course called 'U of T Campus as a Living Lab.' This unique experience captivated her interest and ignited her passion for promoting environmental sustainability. In collaboration with the sustainability office (SO) at St. George campus, her group was tasked with exploring ways in which the SO could support and expand existing ground-level container gardening groups on campus. To gain valuable insights, the team conducted in-depth interviews with experienced gardeners, delving into the realms of urban agriculture and sustainability within the U of T community and beyond. Additionally, an online survey will be administered to campus groups, enabling Elva to assess current practices, validate her findings through existing literature, and identify areas for improvement and untapped opportunities for the SO. This hands-on research project further solidified Elva's commitment to making a positive impact on the environment.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Elva finds joy in spending quality time with her cats, friends and family. She has an adventurous spirit and embraces new experiences and travels, always seeking to broaden her horizons and explore the wonders that the world has to offer.
