Internship projects are based on departmental needs and the strengths of the intern, so no two projects are alike. 

Read below to learn a little bit more about each of the departments involved in the UTM OISE Higher Education Internship program.

 

Student Housing & Residence Life
Accepting applications for Summer 2025

Role: Residence Curriculum Development Intern (2 positions available)
Term: Summer 2025 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Monday, March 24, 2025.
Description: Reporting to the Residence Education & Transition Coordinator (RETC) OR Residence Education & Learning Coordinator (RELC), the Curriculum Development Intern supports the Residence Education team in developing intentional ways of promoting and implementing the curricular framework within Student Housing and Residence Life. The incumbent will assist in developing materials such as facilitation guides. The Curriculum Development Intern will also be a key component in taking on special projects as they relate to the Residence Education portfolios within Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) at UTM.

 

Role: Student Staff Training Intern
Term: Summer 2025 (In-person)
Application Deadline: Monday, March 24, 2025.
Description: The Student Staff Training Intern will support the planning, delivery, and assessment of multiple training programs for Residence Student Staff within Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL). This position will serve as a member of the Training Committee and will assist the committee chair with duties that directly impact the Residence Student Staff experience. The successful candidate will ensure that all student staff training is in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

 

Centre for Student Engagement

The Centre for Student Engagement is committed to facilitating student learning and development inside and outside of the classroom, on campus and in the local community. Through our programs, services, and resources, we provide opportunities that empower students to shape their own experience and contribute to their community.

 

Role: Community Engaged Learning Training Assistant 
Term: Summer 2025 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Monday, March 24, 2025.
Description: This opportunity will allow for an OISE intern to support the review of our current volunteer training and development of new modules and revisions to outdated content. The second half of the semester will include creating new asynchronous modules for our Community Partners to complete in preparation for partnering with UTM and UTM student volunteers. Interested applicants will learn about Community Engaged Learning at UTM, Student Engagement through online training modules and platforms and have the opportunity to work with professionals across the unit who support Community Engaged Learning programming.

 

Role: NEXUS Training Assistant 
Term: Summer 2025 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Monday, March 24, 2025.
Description: NEXUS Training Committee is made up of delegates from Student Housing & Residence Life, International Education Centre and Centre for Student Engagement who work together to plan core training alongside on-campus partners for their 300+ student staff. This years NEXUS training assistant will be helping to launch a new PD plan for student staff to engage in core learnings during the 2025-2026 academic year. This is an opportunity to work alongside on-campus partners and the NEXUS training committee to create this PD plan.

 

Role: Student Group Training Assistant  
Term: Summer 2025 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Monday, March 24, 2025.
Description: Each year, over 200 student groups are supported through the recognition process at UofT by the Centre for Student Engagement (CSE). As student group leaders transition each year, the CSE works to support them through this process by providing training and on-going access to resources as they navigate policies, systems, bookings and requests for funding. The Student Group Training Assistant will help develop some of these trainings and ensure they can be accessed through different mediums based on how student groups may need to receive this information throughout the year (i.e. how-to guides, checklists, modules etc).

 

International Education Centre

The International Education Centre provides a range of programs and services tailored to support and enhance the experience of our global students. Committed to holistic learning, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our global students while ensuring compliance with changing government policies related to immigration and international student support from authorized educational agents.

 

Role: IEC Global Career Resource Development Facilitator
Term: Summer 2025 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Monday, March 24, 2025.
Description: The International Education Centre is seeking someone to support with the creation of resource content for students interested in global experiences and careers. The intern would have the opportunity to assess UTM student needs, research current resources and develop a comprehensive database/guide that will help students achieve their goals.

 

Role: IEC Student Staff Hiring Systems and Support Administrator
Term: Fall 2025/Winter 2026 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Applications will open in June 2025.
Description: The International Education Centre requires support for the administration and systems delivery of the work-study student staff recruitment process.  The intern would have the opportunity to co-develop administrative systems and processes that support smooth and seamless recruitment for the work-study program.  This would include: the creation and maintenance of databases, collection and entering data, developing a process from the job posting phase to the hiring of successful candidates, etc.  Additional assets would be intermediate/advanced in PowerAutomate, Excel, and MS Forms.
 

Role: IEC Programs and Events Facilitator
Term: Fall 2025 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Applications will open in June 2025.
Description: The International Education Centre requires support for the delivery of programs and services offered for intercultural student development and international student support. The intern would have the opportunity to co-develop, facilitate, and assess key programming such as: the Global and Intercultural Fluency Training Series and English Language Conversation Circles. The intern would also support the development of resources and other key programming initiatives for international students that take place both on and off campus.

 

Role: IEC Global Learning Intern
Term: Fall 2025/Winter2026 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Applications will open in June 2025.
Description: Reporting to the Global Mobility Coordinator, the Global Learning Intern will assist in the development, delivery, and assessment of global learning programming, initiatives and events. The successful candidate will draw upon UTM’s strategic goals, research and industry best practices to enhance the IEC’s existing promotional, orientation and post-trip supports so that participants can receive maximum benefit and impact from their overseas experiences.

 

Role: IEC International Student Success Intern
Term: Fall 2025/Winter2026 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: Applications will open in June 2025.
Description: The International Student Success Intern will support the research and development of the International Student Success and Engagement Initiative, which aims to improve the retention, academic success, and overall experience of international students at UTM. The intern will research, analyze data, develop student-centred programming, and enhance peer support structures to strengthen international student services.

Higher Education Internship Information Session

Interested in gaining work experience in the field of student affairs and student services while earning a credit?

      Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

This session will provide students with information on internship opportunities, the application process, what it’s like to work with a host department, and resources available to support you in the application process.

Applications for Summer 2025 internships are open until Monday, March 24, 2025, 11:59 PM (EST).  The application form must be completed in full by this deadline.  Please read all instructions carefully to ensure you have submitted all required documents.
