Internship projects are based on departmental needs and the strengths of the intern, so no two projects are alike. 

Read below to learn a little bit more about each of the departments involved in the UTM OISE Higher Education Internship program.

 

Centre for Student Engagement - Applications for Fall 2024 open on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

The Centre for Student Engagement is committed to facilitating student learning and development inside and outside of the classroom, on campus and in the local community. Through our programs, services, and resources, we provide opportunities that empower students to shape their own experience and contribute to their community.

Role: Grad Connect Assistant
Term: Fall 2024/Winter 2025 - Full year (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: July 24, 2024, 11:59 PM (EST)
Description: The intern will be overseeing the Grad Connect Program.  The Grad Connect Program matches 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students with current graduate students. The intern will recruit mentors and mentees for the program and oversee program logistics and execution.  This position will support the work of a work-study position. 

Role: Student Leader Hiring Intern
Term: Fall 2024 (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: July 24, 2024, 11:59 PM (EST)
Description: The intern will help support the CSE's Team Lead and Returner hiring processes that utilize an equitable and accessible hiring platform called Vidcruiter. Some of the work will include setting up new interview categories, learning the software and ensuring a smooth process of virtual interviewing. The Student will also be able to learn about how the interview platform will support the process of hiring at the CSE.
 

 

Student Housing & Residence Life - Applications for Fall 2024 open on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Role: Residence Communications Intern 
Term: Fall 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Communications Officer (RCO), the Residence Communications Intern will support SHRL in recruiting our first-year population for the upcoming academic year. The incumbent will assist with the recruitment portfolio on campus open houses, analyzing data, and providing suggestions for future initiatives with a focus on reaching international students. In addition, the Residence Communications Intern will support the team in specials projects such as website development, social media strategies, and more relating to the Communications portfolio within Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL). 

Role: Residence Admissions Research Intern
Term: Fall 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Supervisor, Residence Admissions, the Residence Admissions Research Intern will assist the Residence Admissions team by developing and implementing a research plan focused on a variety of admissions related topics including the impacts of special interest housing across universities within Canada and the United States or the increase in need for upper year/returner student housing. The incumbent will provide the Residence Admissions team with a comprehensive report detailing various options and considerations, as well as recommendations in relation to UTM to be used for implementation in the 2025-2026 Admissions & Recruitment cycle. 

Role: Student Staff Hiring Intern
Term: Fall 2024/Winter 2025 - Full year (In-person)

Description: The Student Staff Hiring Intern will support the administration and facilitation of multiple recruitment processes for various student staff roles within Student Housing and Residence Life (SHRL). This position serves as a member of the Hiring Committee and assists the chair of the committee by preparing for upcoming hiring cycles, including organizing interview and selection processes from September 2024 to April 2025. The Student Staff Hiring Intern will work closely with the Hiring committee to fill in the various roles within the department that directly support the student experience. The successful candidate will be expected to follow hiring practices in accordance with the departmental policies and procedures.

Role: Academic Intervention Intern
Term: Winter 2025 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Education & Transition Coordinator (RETC), the Academic Intervention Intern aids the Residence Education unit by supporting undergraduate residence students in their academic transition to post-secondary education through the Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) Academic Intervention Program. The incumbent will: assist in assessment of academic risk level for undergraduate residence students, conduct assessment and data analysis and support building resource networks for students having difficulty navigating the academic expectations of post-secondary education.

Role: Residence Assessment Intern
Term: Winter 2025 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Supervisor, Residence Education (SRE), the Residence Assessment Intern supports the Residence Education team in analyzing a variety of data related to student learning in Residence. The incumbent will assist in developing materials such as facilitation guides. They will also support the Residence Curriculum Committee with ongoing development. The Residence Assessment Intern will also be a key component in taking on special projects as they relate to the Residence Education portfolios within Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) at UTM.

Role: Residence Curriculum Development Intern (2 positions available)
Term: Summer 2025 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Education & Transition Coordinator (RETC) OR Residence Education & Learning Coordinator (RELC), the Curriculum Development Intern supports the Residence Education team in developing intentional ways of promoting and implementing the curricular framework within Student Housing and Residence Life. The incumbent will assist in developing materials such as facilitation guides. The Curriculum Development Intern will also be a key component in taking on special projects as they relate to the Residence Education portfolios within Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) at UTM.

 

International Education Centre - Applications for Fall 2024 open on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

The International Education Centre provides a range of programs and services tailored to support and enhance the experience of our global students. Committed to holistic learning, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our global students while ensuring compliance with changing government policy related to immigration and international student support from authorized educational agents.

Role: International Student Development Programs Intern
Term: Fall 2024/Winter 2025 - Full year (Hybrid)
Application Deadline: July 24, 2024, 11:59 PM (EST)
Description: The International Programs Assistant will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of the UTM Across Canada program, as well as supporting other international programs and events. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Program Development and Implementation:

  • Use best practices in student affairs research to help create meaningful and high impact programs for international students  
  • Collaborate in setting up the UTM Across Canada program by researching and creating detailed itineraries that enrich student experiences
  • Set up and manage the MoveOn platform for program operations.
  • Handle all travel bookings, including flights, accommodations, and local transportation.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts, including creating promotional materials and tabling.

2) Documentation and Communication:

  • Set up the process for UTM Across Canada as well as create and update comprehensive documentation for the program.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating pre-departure and post-departure sessions for program participants.

3) Feedback and Assessment:

  • Develop and implement feedback and assessment tools for the program.
  • Gather and analyze data from participant feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide recommendations based on data analysis to enhance the program’s effectiveness.

4) Support International Programs and Events:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of other international programs and events as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth operation of all activities.

Applications for Fall 2024 internships will open on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.  Applications are due by Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 11:59 PM (EST).  The application form must be completed in full by this deadline.  Please read all instructions carefully to ensure you have submitted all required documents.
