Frequently Asked Questions
The name Professional Skills Development Program (PSDP) summarizes it neatly: an exclusive opportunity for UTMM Commerce and Management students to give themselves a competitive edge, plus have that made official with credentials.
Learning skills beyond academics is vital to your career success. Employers are increasingly looking for candidates whose professional skills complement the required technical ones. Participating in the PSDP demonstrates you’re committed to continuous learning and professional development. The PSDP strengthens your employability and makes you more competitive for the job market.
The program is strictly for UTMM Commerce and Management students, although the 1st years can participate only where registration space is available.
Note: Students who do not get accepted into either Commerce or Management programs will not be able to apply for PSDP Transcript Notation with the Department. The Department will consider PSDP points collected within a students' first year towards the Transcript Notation requirement.
You can start the PSDP program at any point in undergrad years (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or final year). While there is no obligation, there are additional benefits of completing the PSDP Transcript Notation Requirement early:
- Receive your PSDP Notation on your Official UofT Transcript early while you apply for graduate programs or full-time/part-time employment
- Meet the requirements for the UTMM Awards
More than 90% of the PSDP program is free of charge to students. The following exceptions include:
- Case Competitions (RSM - Marketing Conference, Show Me the Green - Sustainability Conference)
- Specialized workshops (Marquee Workshop, Dining Etiquette etc...)
No, students can only use one event per category. We no longer offer alternative category option.
Within two weeks of completing your activity, submit the PSDP Point Request Form available on UTMM iHub to the PSDP team for review and approval. You will receive a decision on your request for the event within 2-3 weeks from submission date.
Book a meeting with Fizza Jaffari, Professional Development & Career Strategist, to ask any additional questions you may have about the PSDP.
