Scholarships & Awards
The Department of Language Studies offers the following scholarships and awards in Italian and French. Read more on the eligibility and application process.
Manuela Bastone Scholarship in Italian
Awarded to the student with high academic standing who is registered in ITA 350Y/371Y/450Y
Delia Social and Cultural Centre Admission Scholarship in Italian
Awarded to an outstanding High school student based on their results in a senior level Italian course and on the recommendation of the Italian department. Payment of the award is conditional upon full-time registration at UofT Mississauga the following September in one of the following courses, ITA 200/221/ 228/ 235/230/243Y.
Roberto Paul Didone Memorial Scholarship in Italian
Awarded to the student with an outstanding contribution to the annual Italian play. The student should be in otherwise good standing.
Penelope Frohman Marchese Scholarship
Awarded to the outstanding full-time student in third year who obtains the highest average in at least two full courses (or their equivalent) in Italian.
Joseph and Iginia Guidoni Memorial Prize in Italian Literature
Awarded to a student with high academic standing who is registered in courses in Italian Literature.
Italian Theatre Scholarship
Awarded to an outstanding student who has made a significant contribution to the Italian Play in a non-acting capacity. In order to be considered the recipient has to have been registered in ITA 312/313/ 314/315/490/495, or any other course associated with the Italian Play. Further registration is not required.
L. M. Picchione Admission Scholarship in Italian
Awarded to an outstanding high school student based on their results in grade 12 Italian. Payment of the award is conditional upon full-time registration at UTM the following September in one of the following courses, ITA200/221/228/235/230/243Y.
Alex and Angelina Prokich Scholarship in Italian
Awarded to a first year full-time student who has obtained a minimum 'A' grade in ITA 100Y. Fulltime enrolment in second year with registration in at least one full course equivalent in Italian is required. Recipients would be excluded from receiving another Italian scholarship or award in the same academic year.
The Pugliese-Bancheri Scholarship in Italian Studies
Awarded to an outstanding student registered in either the major or specialist in the Italian program upon completion of one full course equivalent from the following Medieval and Renaissance courses ITA370H/420Y. Recipients would be excluded from receiving another Italian scholarship or award in the same year. Further registration is not required.
Mississauga Canadian Italian Association Award
Awarded to a University of Toronto Mississauga student registered in the Italian specialist or major program on the basis of financial need. Academic merit will also be considered.
Mississauga Italian Canadian Benevolent Association/Forum Italia Scholarship
Awarded to an outstanding student upon completion of one full course equivalent from the following courses LTL227H/ITA375Y/ITA376H /ITA437H. Preference will be given to students registered in the Italian specialist or major program. Recipients would be excluded from receiving another Italian scholarships or awards in the same year.
The Max Morris Memorial Prize in Modern Languages
Awarded to the student, full-time or part-time, who attains high academic standing at the end of Year III. The student must be registered in a program in a modern language.
Tre Stelle Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time student with the highest overall standing and "A" standing in Italian Studies after Year I. Preference will be given to students who enroll full-time in Year II in a Specialist or Major Program in Italian at UofT Mississauga in the following session.
Metro Toronto Italo-Canadian Scholarship
Awarded to an outstanding student in Italian in Year II who is nominated by the faculty and is otherwise in good standing.
David Trott French Prize
Awarded to an outstanding year II students whose program has included a minimum of 2 full courses (of their equivalent) in French at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The winner must have an otherwise satisfactory standing. Further registration is not required.
Anne Ritchie Award in French
To be awarded to the student with the highest standing in a 300/400 level French literature/French linguistics/French language Teaching and Learning course. Registration in at least 2 full course equivalents in French in the same session is required. The student should be in good standing academically.
The Howard Root Memorial Award
Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the Functional French Minor at U of T Mississauga, has the overall highest Cumulative GPA in the French minor and has completed FSL205-206.
Sharp Electronics of Canada Limited Scholarship in Italian Studies
Awarded to an outstanding student upon completion of ITA 200Y. The recipient must be registered in at least a Minor in Italian as well as having obtained a minimum 'A' grade in ITA 200Y. Recipients would be excluded from receiving another Italian scholarship or award in the same year.
