Procedure for Missed Term Work/Tests (Assessments worth more than 10%)
You should email your instructor to notify them of your absence before you submit the special consideration request form.
- Complete and submit the online form on the UTM Special Consideration Request [Pilot] website within 48 hours of the missed term work due date/test. Late requests will NOT be considered.
- Upload the appropriate supporting documentation (e.g., Verification of Illness Form or Verification of Extenuating Circumstances).
- If you are using the Absence Declaration Tool on ACORN (under the Profile and Settings menu at www.acorn.utoronto.ca), please first check your course syllabus for details on the Absence Declaration Tool policy for the course. Please also check the UTM Registrar's policy on the use of this tool: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/registrar/enrolment/manage/absence-declaration . Remember to upload a copy of your Acorn Absence Declaration when you submit your special consideration request.
You may receive a follow-up email regarding your request. If so, you MUST respond within 24 hours. It is your responsibility to check your UofT email (mail.utoronto.ca) and the status of your request on the UTM Special Consideration Request [Pilot] website.
The department will follow up with you/inform you of the decision within 72 hours of receiving your request.
Requests for special consideration are not automatically granted and any accommodation is at the discretion of the instructor.
If you are requesting special consideration for an assignment, you should continue working on your assignment and submit as soon as possible - do not wait for a decision on your special consideration request.
NOTE: The UTM Special Consideration Request [Pilot] website should not be used for matters requiring submission of a formal petition to the UTM Office of the Registrar.
If you are requesting special consideration for an assessment worth 10% or less, please consult your course syllabus for the procedure to be followed.
