Title/Position
MBA Program Officer at DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University
Honours B.A. in French & Italian, 2013

I am currently an MBA Program Officer at DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University.

What were your favourite classes and why?

I had a wonderful experience at UTM overall, but I have to say my most favourite class was Italian Theatre with Dr. Teresa Lobalsamo. The experiential nature of the class and Dr. Lobalsamo’s approach to teaching and directing a play made it an invaluable experience. I have my most fond memories and built the best friendships in that course.

How did you balance your time as a student?

I believe staying organized and involved were key to my positive student experience at UTM. Connecting with professors and peers made my academic experience more meaningful and allowed me to be successful. My involvement in extracurricular activities in the department, from being the founding president of the Language Studies Academic Society (LSAS) to being a student representative for various committees, ignited my passion for the world of Higher Education, which in turn led me to my chosen professional path.

How is your specialist related to your current work?

While my current full-time position does not necessarily directly relate to the languages I studied at UTM, the transferrable skills I gained as a student of language studies most definitely allow me to be a top performer in my role. Communications, presentation, and teamwork skills are just a few of the skills I gained while studying at the Language Studies Department at UTM, and they are essential to my day-to-day operation in my role. I do also teach languages part-time so I can keep up with my language skills and ability, so this is directly related to the degree I completed at UTM and my Med at OISE!

How have you utilized the alumni network both as a student and/or as an alumnus?

As I mentioned before, I was quite involved in extracurricular activities as a student, and I have also remained very involved as an alumna. I am a mentor for the UTM Alumni Association, and I believe in the power of mentoring and networking. These connections have provided opportunities to connect with a variety of individuals and broaden my horizons not only in my professional field but in many other professional and personal ways.
