October has come and gone!
Informational Events
We hosted the second event of our "Linguists at Work" series on Monday, October 7 to connect students with current linguistics graduate students and faculty. Students learned about the admission requirements and some strategies to position themselves for success in graduate school.
Linguistics and computer science students came together for our Computational Linguistics Launch event on Friday, October 11. This event provided students with some insight on how computational linguistics is used in research and industry, with presentations from faculty and discussion with alumni of computational linguistics courses.
Sunday, October 20 was UTM's annual Fall Campus Day, and we were happy to meet and greet prospective students interested in attending UTM.
In the Community
On Thursday, October 31, Prof. Ai Taniguchi and Jennifer Fischer (Academic Advisor & Project Administrator) won the Best Duo Award in UTM's Halloween Costume Contest, held annually in support of the United Way. They are pictured below, dressed up as "Synonym Roll" and "Thesaurus".
