Powwow

A Powwow is an Indigenous social celebration where community members can gather and enjoy traditional singing and dancing. All community members, including those not of Indigenous ancestry, are welcome and are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in what a Powwow has to offer.

Experiencing a Powwow emphasizes the importance of relationship-building with everyone while providing opportunities to learn more about Indigenous culture and knowledge.

In March 2023 the UTM Indigenous Centre and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation organized an All-Nations Powwow on campus.

"The truth is, we should never have to change to fit into society. The world should adapt to embrace our uniqueness. And that's a fundamental principle of life."

Giima R. Stacey Laforme, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
