Dr. Tarek Loubani presents at UTM

Professor Loubani presents in front of a crowd of students and professors around a boardroom table in an academic lab.

Dr. Tarek Loubani—an associate professor at Western University, emergency physician, and co-founder of the Glia Project—gave a presentation at the Open Design Collaboratory this past week.

Entitled "Technology on the Frontlines of Liberation, a Conversation on Medical Solidarity in Gaza and Beyond," this presentation drew from Loubani's experiences with Glia, a medical solidarity organization that (among other things) provides low-cost 3D-printed medical equipment, such as stethoscopes and tourniquets, to frontline medical personnel in Gaza. The organization's Gaza offices were bombed during the recent war, and its Gaza team was displaced from their homes. Despite this, Glia continues to operate and bring in medical supplies.

After the talk, ICCIT professor Alessandro Delfanti moderated a discussion with Dr. Loubani, followed by lunch and an interactive Q&A session.
