ICCIT Professor Brett Caraway was interviewed this week by both the Canadian Press and CTV News on Meta's recent decision to end their fact-checking system across all of the company's social media platforms.

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement Tuesday, indicating that Facebook, Instagram, and Threads will instead be transitioning to a community notes model—a system that relies on users to append false posts. Experts worry that the move has several shortcomings that could allow for the proliferation of misinformation.

"Numerous studies have shown that community notes has failed to identify viral misinformation and is uneven in its application," commented Caraway.
