Research and Professional Interests
My research will involve building temperature reconstructions using a lipid that bacteria produce. Branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs) lipids can be measured to help determine past temperatures when sampled from lake sediment cores. These sediments can be thousands of years old, providing us with a long-term perspective on past and present climate change.
My research will focus on lake sediment cores that have been sampled from Yukon and Northwest Territories, as northern climates have been disproportionally affected by climate change. Gaining information on past temperatures may help answer questions we have about the current climate and the future.
