How do proteins function?

Biomolecular “machines” are found throughout our cells and are made up of single proteins, groups of proteins, or groups of proteins and other biological macromolecules like RNA. The diversity of these biomolecular machines is reflected in how they work within cells. For example, proteins on the surface of the cell control molecules going in and out of the cell, while proteins inside the nucleus control how genes are turned on and off. 

Research in CPS investigates how proteins and RNA regulate biological processes, how proteins and RNA can go rogue and cause disease, and how we can fix these aberrant proteins and RNAs to treat diseases.
