Established in 1970, Chemistry at the University of Toronto Mississauga is presently home to roughly one quarter of the chemistry faculty members at the University of Toronto. These include world-leading chemistry researchers and teachers, nearly 50% of whom have been hired in the last five years, the result of a recruitment and renewal drive that continues to this day.
Many of our chemistry faculty pursue research of a distinctly biological flavour. This is partly the result of a natural evolution, given the intense molecular focus of the numerous and large Biology and Psychology research groups likewise located at the University of Toronto Mississauga . It is also in part the result of a deliberate hiring emphasis designed to maximize opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with other chemistry faculty and with faculty in other departments. Overall research interests in chemistry here include:
* bioanalytical chemistry,
* biological and organic chemistry,
* chemical biophysics,
* environmental chemistry,
* inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry,
* physical and biophysical chemistry and
* polymer and material chemistry.
Chemistry researchers at the University of Toronto Mississauga enjoy access to a wealth of advanced research facilities located immediately on-campus. These include a new multi-million dollar suite of high field NMR spectrometers, and the newly completed $34 million dollar UTM Library. In addition, as members of the wider University of Toronto chemistry community, our chemists can avail themselves of the extensive facilities and expertise offered by the University of Toronto as a whole.
