Accessibility Services is recruiting volunteers to provide on-campus support for students with disabilities and assist with tabling during outreach events. Volunteer responsibilities include:
- Assist students by providing sighted guidance and support with navigating the campus
- Offering to push their wheelchair and/or carry the student's bag (if requested)
- Holding doors open (especially in hallways and rooms that does not have an accessible door opener)
- Ensuring accessible furniture (i.e. height adjustable desk) is properly arranged for the student in the classroom
- Assisting with set-up, tabling, and clean up during campus fairs and events.
- Participating in outreach activities such as making in-class announcements to recruit notetakers and to promote our volunteer program.
Letter of Reference
Volunteers who complete their commitments are eligible to receive a reference letter at the end of the academic year. To request a reference letter, please email us at accessvolunteers.utm@utoronto.ca
