UTM remembers professor Jerry Melbye

Jerry Melbye

On Friday, March 17, colleagues, friends and former students of Jerry Melbye gathered in the UTM Faculty Club to remember and celebrate the retired anthropology professor, who passed away on March 4.

Melbye was a founder of UTM's forensic science program and the Forensic Anthropology Outdoor Research Facility at Texas State. Many attendees were spotted wearing the “Melbye-style” dress code of Hawaiian shirts and jean jackets. The beloved professor was fondly remembered as an “aficionado of jokes so bad that you couldn't help but smile.”

Melbye was recently profiled UTM’s “50 Faces” anniversary project, which showcases those who have contributed to the campus over its 50-year history.
